Telaga Tujuh (Seven Pools) Langkawi

The fresh water springs that forms seven majestic springs in Telaga Tujuh (seven pools) of Langkawi is a sight not to be missed.
Location
It is located at some 45 kilometers from Kuah in Langkawi of Malaysia. .
Description
A fresh stream gushes down from a height of about 90 meters through a series of seven natural pools. The rocks here are extremely slippery and so if you wish to climb the rocks be a bit careful. Every time you move higher from the lower fall you unveil a distinct beauty that is to take you r breath away.
The path that leads to the top of the hill is less than a mile but it is quiet strenuous. But if you muster a bit of courage and have a little amount of care the place is to give you an unique pleasure.
A handful number of exotic plants that grow around the area add to the beauty of the picturesque landscape. As you move through the surrounding rainforest areas unravel the hidden charisma of the place.
Legends
Locals of Langkawi believe that fairies descended down to this place to have a bath. It is for them that the water of the springs is blessed wit ha healing power that relieves innumerable.

Attractions
Enjoy the seven pools whose water flow into the other creating a beautiful picture. If you manage for yourself a cable car, ride to the top of the Gunung Mat Chincang. As you ride along the entire track, see and enjoy the Telaga Waterfalls.
Watch the playful monkeys jumping from one tree to the other or watch the giant squirrels swirling here and there. Listen to the call of an orange beaked hornbill that hides itself behind the leaves.

Pulau Dayang Bunting (Island Of The Pregnant Mermaid) Langkawi

Pulau Dayang Bunting (Island Of The Pregnant Mermaid) is the second largest island of the Langkawi archipelago, second only to Pulau Langkawi itself. Located at a distance of about 17.6 km from Kuah Town, Pulau Dayang Bunting is accessible from Kuah Jetty or Pantai Cenang through a 15 minute boat ride.
The island derives its name from Tasik Dayang Bunting (Lake of the Pregnant Maiden), the largest lake on Langkawi. The lake and the island are shrouded in legend. Tales of Mambang Sari and Mat Teja's ill-fated love story loom over one's mind as one cools off in the scintillating waters of the lake. The story of Mat Teja's courtship of his beloved and their sweet romantic endeavors take the tourists back into the world of nymphs and genies. Their love child did not survive long and the anguished mother bid her son farewell. The child is believed to have assumed the form of a white crocodile as she placed him in his watery grave. This crocodile guards the lake till date, natives hold, and is said to appear only to the pure at heart. Mambang Sari, overflowing with maternal affection and distraught at such a fortuity, blessed the waters that took her son into their fold with magical qualities. Since then, the natives believe that a sip of the waters of Tasik Dayang Bunting endows fertility to any childless woman.
Gua Langsir (Cave of the Banshee), located on the western shore of the island, is another major attraction of the island. The natives superstitiously believe the existence of a banshee haunting the interiors of this dark cave. However the name may also be associated with the banshee like wail created by the howling of the wind. Many attribute this wail purely to the acoustics of the cave. Thousands of bats are known to inhabit this cave. The Gua Langsir is located stop a 91 m limestone hillock, about 8 km north of the only jetty. This jetty has been fashioned in a small cove to aid tourists alight their boats before proceeding to explore the Pulau Dayang Bunting.
Pulau Dayang Bunting is famed for the mangrove swamplands and the dense tropical rainforests it encompasses. A vast variety of birds such as the kite, woodpecker, hornbill, drongo and kingfisher nest here and Pulau Dayang Bunting the ornithologist's Eden.

Black Sand Beach Langkawi

The Black Sand Beach Of Langkawi is a major tourist attraction of the region. Visitors are awed by the black sands and the legends behind this occurrence are highly interesting as well. It narrates of a mythical giant eagle, Garuda, who kidnaps a Chinese princess with an intention to seek her favors. The princess' heart however laid with her fiancé, a roman prince. The prince waged a deadly war against Garuda and sought out his beloved at Langkawi. It is believed that the remnants of this war can be seen on the black sands of this beach.
Other tales narrate of killer eddies and whirlpools becoming the watery graves of unsuspecting sailors blackening the shores of this beach. Yet another legend speaks of a fisherman having incurred the wrath of a mermaid whose ring he stole. The mermaid's curse having charred the land, the beach is said to retain the color as a sad reminder of the man's wrongdoing.
The black sand beach is called Pantai Pasir Hitam by the natives. Some geologists believe that the sand is rich in cassiterite, a stannous oxide and hence the color. However the exact reasoning behind the blackened soil has not yet been ascertained. Winter is the ideal season to visit this beach as the black sands gleam and sparkle giving the bay a truly breathtaking appearance. The Pantai Pasir Hitam is one of the oldest fishing hamlets of Langkawi and exudes an irresistible olde worlde charm. Black Sand Beach Motel offers excellent accommodation facilities to those visiting this beach. Fishing is famous on theses shores and the beach is through and through a tourist spot replete with souvenir shops and eateries.

Air Hangat (Hot Springs)

The greenery and the picturesque landscape of the Air Hangat (Hot Springs) of Langkawi is considered by people as an excellent place for health improvement. This hot spring of Malaysia is a place that you should not miss to visit.
Location
It is located in Air Hangat Village, which is at some 14 kilometers from Kuah.
Legend
A popular believe among the masses is that the spring originated from a quarrel between two groups namely the Mat Raya and Mat Cincang. One of the two parties threw a pot of hot water which fell on the ground. From there arose the hot springs of Air Hangat.

Description
It is assumed that the origin of the hot springs can be traced to the Gunung Raya which has a warm base. The water of the spring is almost crystal clear with a thin layer of algae floating on the surface.
Take a bath in the hot springs. The water rich in minerals and sulphur is believed t o have a special medicinal value.
It is accepted that the spring some volcanic eruption gave rise to the spring some million years back.
Attractions
Among the other attractions you can see the 18 meters long hand carved stone mural that makes the people aware about the legends of Air Hangat. While you are on a trip to the hot springs, you can enjoy the traditional programmes and the dances of the locals. Gua Cerita(Legend Cave) Langkawi

The north east of Langkawi posseses one of the most captivating attractions of the island, The Gua Cerita(Legend Cave). It consists of two limestone caves placed one above the other and faces the azure sea. These beautiful pair of nature's wonder is associated with a number of legends.
Thousand of tourists flock to this place in order to take a glimpse of these limestone beauty. Legend says, that the emperors of Rome and China planned to marry their children. The famous Geruda or the phoenix opposed to this because he realized that the union of two such great powers may pose threat to the other tiny kingdoms. So he kidnapped the Chinese princess and hid her in cave in Langkawi. He then went on to crush the forces of Merong Maha Wangsa, the Chinese emperor. A fierce battle was fought and the Roman Prince fell into the sea and was washed on shore of the island where the Geruda had hid the princess. Finally the maids of the princess retrieved the prince and they were united. The Gua cerita is believed to be that holy place where the legendary wedding took place.
Another legend says that a weird creature by the name of Gedembi, had the magical power of transforming anyone into an ox. Everyone hated her because she was devoid of love and compassion. One day she found the caves of Gua Cerita and took up a liking for it. But the place was already inhabited by a family who were not ready to leave it. And thus the Satan turned all of them into stones. Stones of different shapes were found in the caves till sometimes, but now they have disappeared.

Makam Mahsuri (Masuri Mausoleum) Langkawi

The Mahsuri Mausoleum or the Makam Mahsuri was set up in honor of Mahsuri beautiful princess of Langkawi who was accused of Adultery by her mother in law two hundred years ago. The legend goes that the mother in law was jealous of the beauty of her daughter in law and thereby ordered her extermination much before the arrival of her son, who was away at war. It is said that while Mahsuri was executed with the help of a special dagger, but her blood was white, which proved her innocence. In the course of her dying Mahsuri cursed the island so that it would remain barren for seven generations. The seven generations has passed and fortunately, it is now seen that Langkawi is a flourishing Tourist destination.

The Mausoleum houses a Kedah traditional house, Mahsuri's well, Mahsuri's tomb and an aviary. As a mark of reverence, Tourists open their shoes while entering the Mausoleum. You can taste of some of regional delicacies near the vicinity with along cultural shows. There are many souvenirs shops and stores near at hand for your benefit.
